Ada dua faktor yang paling penting, yaitu: kemampuan mensyukuri dan hubungan pribadi yang sehat. Jadi rumusnya sederhana: hitunglah berkah yang kita terima dan nikmati hubungan dengan keluarga dan teman-teman.

Sayangnya, hal sederhana diatas ini tidak semudah ngomongnya. Manusia, yang pada dasarnya kebanyakan melihat masa depan secara pesimis, perlu melatih ulang pola pikirnya. Ada yang bilang bahwa kebahagiaan bukanlah mendapatkan apa yang kita mau, tapi menginginkan apa yang sudah kita dapatkan. Tetapi ternyata tidak mudah untuk benar-benar puas dengan apa yang kita miliki.

Salah satu kuncinya adalah: berpikir positif. Tapi buat kebanyakan dari kita-kata, hal ini memerlukan disiplin dan praktek supaya bisa berpikir positif secara konsisten. Kadang-kadang, caranya hanya perlu merubah sudut pandang kita, kemudian memilih untuk melihat dan menghargai harapan atau kondisi yang belum tercapai sepenuhnya. Sebaliknya, diperlukan kemauan untuk membuang pikiran yang kecewa, iri atau terus-terusan merasa menderita. Dan mendorong pikiran kita kearah yang baik, termasuk semua hal yang seharusnya kita syukuri. Menariknya, kemampuan untuk memelihara sikap yang positif ini ternyata juga penting dalam membina dan menjaga hubungan yang baik, yaitu bisa melihat dan bisa melahirkan hal-hal yang terbaik dari hubungan tersebut.
